Hairdressing Apprenticeship Diploma Level 2 at New College Nottingham

Course description

If you're currently employed in the hairdressing industry but would like to gain a formal qualification and improve your cutting and styling skills, a Level 2 apprenticeship could be for you. Hairdressing is a creative and rewarding career and a Level 2 apprenticeship will help you to build on the skills you already have. 

If you're new to hairdressing, this apprenticeship will give you an excellent grounding in the basics - you'll need to find an employer to take you on and we can support you in finding one, just get in touch. 

Taking on the challenge of this Apprenticeship will prepare you for reaching the next stage in your hairdressing career and will give you an excellent base from which to take your skills to the next level.

Apprenticeships can start at any time of year, there's no need to wait until September, all you need to start is to be in employment. 

Course content

Our Level 2 Apprenticeship in Hairdressing will cover a range of mandatory units including health and safety in the workplace, general salon and reception skills and will deliver maths, English and ICT functional skills to minimum Level 1. Participants will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities and personal learning skills. 

Your practical units will include:
 • Cutting 
• Setting 
• Blow-drying 
• Colouring 
• Perming 

As well as: 
 • Personal learning and thinking skills 
• Health and Safety 
• Reception skills

Entry requirements

You'll need to have one of the following:

  • 4 GCSEs (3 at grades A*-D and 1 at grade A*-E), including English and maths or equivalent  - Functional Skills may be accepted in place of GCSE English and/or maths
  • Previous hairdressing experience will be considered

Assessment

Your practical and theory work will be continually assessed by your workplace tutor and an internal verifier will visit you to monitor your progress. You'll produce a portfolio of evidence to show your progress.

    • This former lace mill from the 1800s was once the centrepoint of the UK's world renowned lace manufacturing industry but now it's home to more than 50 of ncn's courses, including TV, Film and Digital Industries, Fashion, Multimedia, Games Development, Business and Administration, Aviation, Travel and Tourism, our HE Centre, ICT and many more.

       
      The building itself is some seven floors and in our fashion and textiles rooms right at the top of the building, you can enjoy some amazing views of the city.
       
      Across the road we have our Visual Arts Academy housed within another impressive building located at 25 Stoney Street. Here we have vast rooms and studios with amazing light so that all our art, design and photography students can do their thing.
       
      It's no coincidence that ncn's Visual Arts and Fashion and Media and Digital Academies are in the heart of the Lace Market. The area has been named Nottingham's Creative Quarter where hundreds of small creative businesses operate from. This connnectivity and vibrant environment gives our creative students a head start!
