IT Users (ITQ) BTEC Level 1 Diploma at Epping Forest College
This is an introductory course in IT that provides you with the opportunity to improve your English & Mathematics whilst developing various skills, techniques and computer hardware and software knowledge essential for the working environment.
This course offers a flexible route to achieve the skills needed for the work place or to enable you to progress onto a Level 2 qualification.
Various events are arranged throughout the year both internally and externally.
You will be studying the following units:
- Improving Productivity Using IT
- Word Processing and Presentation Software
- IT User Fundamentals
- Desktop Publishing
- IT Communication Fundamentals
- IT Software Fundamentals
- Design and Imaging Software
- Using Mobile IT Devices
- Spreadsheet Software
English and Maths are important life skills. As part of your study programme, we will be working with you to improve your English and Maths skills and work towards taking a GCSE.
You will undertake meaningful work experience related to the qualification you take. This allows you to use what you learn in work situations. Your programme will also include other activities designed to support and help you develop the job-related skills, experience and confidence required to progress to employment or higher education.
4 GCSEs grades E–G or above including English Language or equivalent.
You will study a number of units throughout the year that will be continually assessed by our staff and by external moderators.
Any extra materials you need for the course are included as part of the material fee of £69, payable at enrolment. However students’ are expected to bring in their own paper, pens and data storage devices. All of these items can be purchased from the EFC student shop.
It is very important to find out about all of your options after you have completed your course. Some careers will require specific qualifications and training for you to work in the sector, whereas other jobs and careers do not have a set training route. For Level 1, you may decide to continue to the next level of your current subject at this college, or you may want to find out about other options that are available to you.
You may also choose to apply for an Intermediate Apprenticeship (Level 2). Information about apprenticeships can be found at the National Apprenticeship website - you can search and apply for apprenticeships there. You then complete ONE application form, which you can use to apply for any Apprenticeship. The entry requirements vary a lot, depending on the employer, the college and the Apprenticeship.
