Sport BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at Lincoln Castle Academy
Year on year the sport and active leisure sector outperforms the rest of the UK economy; this has been a trend since the end of the economic recession of the late 1990s, and researchers predict will continue to be the case for years to come, long after the sports legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Despite the prevalence of this sector, a third of the workforce in the sector have either no formal qualifications or are only qualified at Level 1. In addition, feedback from employers suggests that skills shortages are responsible for a large proportion of the vacancies in this sector.
These factors highlight the importance of formally recognised Level 3 qualifications in this sector, such as the BTECs at Level 3 in Sport. You will develop skills in areas such as: independent enquirers; creative thinkers; reflective learners; team workers; self-managers; effective participators. Biology, Psychology, Public Services and Business are subjects that compliment this course well.
You will have to achieve a minimum of ‘Merit’ grade at BTEC First (Level 2) or GCSE PE at grade ‘C’ or above. It is also essential that students have the self motivation to succeed in a 100% coursework environment, coupled with good time management skills and enthusiasm for the subject. Although not essential, a ‘C’ grade in English and Maths is desirable or students should also be working towards gaining this in their Sixth Form studies.
The BTEC Level 3 in Sport provides an introduction to the sector for learners looking to build a career in sport, within one of its occupational areas. These areas include careers in exercise and fitness, coaching and leadership and sports development as well as Sport Education.
