Information Technology (IT) Level 2 Diploma at Furness College
Develop skills that are essential for the modern-day workplace. These skills include: team working; working from a prescribed brief; working to deadlines; presenting information effectively; and accurately completing administrative tasks and processes.
This course will appeal to students who enjoy studying a diverse and fast changing subject and to those who want to develop ICT skills which can be used at home or in industry.
You will study: database development, computer hardware, computational thinking, online world & technology systems, website production, graphics & digital animation, multimedia & digital portfolio and computing in the workplace.
Every full-time course will include a real experience of work.
Maths and English form part of this course and will be assessed at the relevant levels.
Four GCSEs at grades D - G, (including English and maths) or other equivalent qualifications. You will be required to attend an interview.
The assessment is designed to reward students for what they can do as well as what they know. You will be internally and externally assessed through short answer tests and assignments set and marked by your lecturers. These assignments may be set assignments,
projects or case study work and evidence may be in the form of any of the following:
• Written reports
• Projects & project plans
• Performance-observation records
• Practical assessments
• Audio-visual recordings of portfolio
• Sketchbook, a working logbook etc.
Two units are externally assesses, which includes an online multiple answer test
All other units are internally assessed and graded, externally moderated and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.
There are no specific extra costs, just stationery for study.
Students can progress on to the Level 3 in IT or an IT/Creative Media apprenticeship or other equivalent qualifications or go on to employment within the information technology industry and/or areas within the creative industries. Progression is based on aptitude and a successful interview.
