Bench Joinery Advanced Apprenticeship at Derby College

Course description

This course meets the needs of learners who have secured an apprenticeship position in wood trades.  It enables them to learn, develop and practise the skills required for their employment.  It also contributes knowledge and understanding towards the related Diploma in Wood Occupations.  This course is specific to those wishing to undertake on-site carpentry and joinery or bench joinery.

  • City & Guilds Intermediate Diploma in Wood Occupations Bench Carpentry
  • NVQ Intermediate Diploma in Wood Occupations Bench Carpentry

You will need to choose one of these pathways.

Entry requirements

You should have gained employment as an apprentice with a construction, carpentry or joinery company.

A GCSE grade E or above in English and Maths, a Pass or above in BTEC Level 2 Construction or equivalent qualifications are desirable, although not always required.

A commitment to your own learning and performance in a working environment is essential.

Assessment

You will complete College-based practical and theory assessments as you work towards a City & Guilds Intermediate Diploma in Wood Occupations. You will also build an NVQ portfolio of evidence based on your site experience.

Financial information

You will need safety boots and a hard hat to meet Health and Safety requirements in the workshop.

You can progress to the Advanced Apprenticeship in Wood Occupations.
