Activity Leadership Level 2 at Eccles Sixth Form College

Course description

This is a one year course designed for students who are considering a career in the sports/coaching industry or working with youth and community groups.  You will have access to brand new state-of-the-art facilities including FA approved 4G pitch, a new fully stocked fitness suite and a multi-use sports hall.  During the course you will be allocated a voluntary placement in either an educational or community environment where you will gain valuable experience in a 'real setting'

You will also have the opportunity to develop your coaching skills in a range of sports with the opportunity to complete a Level 1 Coaching Awards in various sports, plus the Sports Uk Award.

Course content

There will be eight compulsory units to complete over the academic year and include:

Prepare for activity sessions

Lead activity sessions

Conclude and review activity sessions

Support the work of the team

Promote health, safety and welfare in active leisure and recreation

Support equality and diversity in active leisure and recreation

Support the development of the sport or activity

Set up, take down and store activity equipment

Entry requirements

4 Ds/ 3s  at GCSE

Assessment

You will be assessed regularly on your performance and you will produce a portfolio of evidence which will contain observations by your assessors of your performance, records of your work, witness testimonies by people who have seen you in work placement, completed assignments and simulations you have taken part in

Financial information

Full time courses are free to 16-18 year olds who are EU citizens

Future opportunities

There are a range of Level 3 courses at college which can be accessed from this course, with possible progression on to Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Sports Development.  Alternatively you can move into employment within the leisure/sports industry
