Painting and Decorating Diploma Level 2 at West Suffolk College

Course description

This decorating qualification is for learners interested in continuing a career, within the very varied, vibrant, and creative Painting and Decorating industry.

 

Course content

A one year, full-time, Level 2 diploma covering all the skills and knowledge required to gain the qualification. These skills include Painting, Wallpapering, Stencilling, Glazing, Marbling, Graining, Coving, Artexing, Drylining Broken Colour Effects, Roller Work, Colour Schemes, Colour Theory, Using and Erecting Access Equipment and Spraying

The decorating course is broken up into eight units: - Health

- Communication

- Building Methods

- Preparing Surfaces

- Applying Paint

- Wall and Ceiling Coverings

- Specialist Decorative Finishes

- Access Equipment

- Colour Theory and Spraying

 

Any student aged 16 to 19 who does not hold a GCSE A* to C (9 to 4 on the new grading structure) or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English by age 16 will need to continue to study these subjects in each academic year.

 

Entry requirements

Progression to Painting and Decorating or four GCSE's at Grade D (3) or above.

 

Assessment

The qualification offered is the only industry recognised: City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Painting and Decorating

 

Future opportunities

On completion of the course, learners will be able to continue their studies onto the Level 3 Decorating Diploma, or the NVQ Level 3 Programme if they have gained employment.

On completion of the course, learners will be able to continue their studies onto the Level 3 Decorating Diploma, or the NVQ Level 3 Programme if they have gained employment. In achieving the Level 2 Decorating qualification, learners will be qualified as a City and Guilds Decorator and be able to trade as such.

Many learners, who achieve this Level 2 qualification, set up business on their own and trade as Qualified Decorators.

Of the students who completed this course last year 24% continued with their existing programme of study and 72% secured employment.
