You will learn about mechanical and electrical engineering principles and applications and how to solve real life engineering problems. The course involves practical work on electronic circuits, forces, materials testing and servicing engineered components.
These are some of the areas you will study:
- Engineering principles - maths, mechanical and electrical principles
- Delivering engineering processes safely
- Engineering product design and manufacturing
- Computer aided design in engineering
A number of specifications will be changing and prospectus entries are based on information we have to date. This means that course content may be subject to change.
You will need at least 5 GCSEs at grade 9-4 (A*-C). You will normally need at least a grade 4/C in English Language and Maths. Non-GCSE qualifications like BTEC Level 2 in a related area can count towards this total, but we will also look at your overall academic profile.
You will need a minimum of 4/C in Core and Additional Science (or equivalent) and 4/C in Mathematics.
You will be assessed through a mixture of external assignments and internal assignments.
Everything you must have to undertake the course will be provided by college. You may have to pay for extras such as trips/visits.
You can progress to study engineering at university or apply for technical apprenticeships or technician jobs in the engineering industry.
