History at Derby High School
The GCE specification is designed to build on the skills and concepts of history acquired by students at GCSE. However, students who have not studied history at GCSE may be accepted onto the AS course following consultation with the subject leader. A high standard of literacy is essential, as is a commitment to reading around the subject. . The scheme of work provides you with opportunities to develop your skills of analysis, evaluation, interpretation and explanation as well as the ability to arrive at substantiated judgements. You will also gain a greater appreciation of the past and how it relates to the world we live in today. Teaching methods vary from informal group discussions, seminar presentations and organised debates to lectures and formal written tasks. Overall we aim to provide you with a foundation for future study and the necessary skills suited to higher education and employment opportunities.The proposed programme of study is explained in detail below. Should any amendments be made to this programme of study we shall inform all students of the changes and the reasons behind them.
Seven full GCSE passes (including English and Maths) at Grade B or above with at least a B in those subjects that the student wishes to study.
