Public Services (Uniformed) Level 3 Extended Diploma at Furness College
Learn the skills, discipline and knowledge you will need for a career in the Police, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, Prison Service, Army, Royal Navy, RAF or Marines.
The course is delivered through practical activities, visits, workshops and classroom teaching. Units studied may include: government policies and the public services, leadership and teamwork in the public services, citizenship, diversity and the public
services, understanding discipline in the uniformed service and fitness testing and training for the uniformed services.
Every full-time course will include a real experience of work.
Maths and English form part of this course and will be assessed at the relevant levels.
Five GCSEs at grade C or above (including English and maths) or other equivalent qualifications. You are also expected to attend an interview and you must have a good level of fitness.
Students will be assessed in a variety of ways such as practical assessments, log books, written assignments, project work, fitness testing, case studies and observations of practical activities.
Students will be expected to dress according to the activity in line with health and safety recommendations. Students would therefore be expected to provide and wear their own suitable clothing and footwear for practical sports and fitness testing. However, more specialist equipment for less frequent activities would be provided.
This qualification has been designed to give students the skills and knowledge preparing them for Public Service employment. However, employers might also require additional qualifications such as GCSE Maths and English. Progression is based on aptitude and a successful interview.
