Health AND Social Care (Step up to Level 3) - Level 3 at Middlesbrough College

Course description

This combined one year, Level 3 course prepares you for employment in the Health & Social Care sector or for progression to a full Level 3 course. It will help you to develop the skills and knowledge required for Health and Care whilst also improving your English and Maths. Work experience will be planned into the programme to develop your vocational skills and your placement will be planned with one of our experienced work placement coordinators.

Course content

BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Health and Social Care: Unit 1- Communication in a health and care setting Unit 3- Health & Safety in a health and care setting Unit 21- Nutrition in a health and care setting English and Maths Level 2 English and Maths Work Experience Work experience in a Health and Care setting Study skills Study Skills with personal teacher 1-1 with personal teacher Life essentials Advantage Programme

Entry requirements

To gain entry to this course you must possess a full Level 2 qualification and English and Maths at Level 1 or GCSE grade D. You must also undertake a successful interview and provide a satisfactory reference. You will undertake and require a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure Application "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."


You will be assessed through the continuous assessment of assignments and practical sessions which will form part of a portfolio of evidence. Students will require to have taken part in work placement which is an important part of the course as it will help you gain experience and the knowledge in health and care.

Future opportunities

This qualification will allow students to progress to the full Level 3 qualification such as a Level 3 Diploma Health & Social Care. Should you choose to go directly into employment you will have achieved some qualifications that are desirable by many employers.
