Mathematics AS/A Level at The Ripley Academy

Course description

AS content – Core 1 Pure mathematics, Core  2  Pure mathematics,   Statistics

Full A level content – AS content plus Core 3 Pure mathematics, Core 4 Pure mathematics, Mechanics

Entry requirements

Students are required to have grade A in Mathematics GCSE.  Students may be considered with B grades in GCSE under certain circumstances.


Assessment of the Edexcel A level mathematics course is by written examination. Examinations are in June; Statistics, Core 1 & Core 2 are taken in year 12 and Mechanics, Core 3 & Core 4 in year 13. 

Future opportunities

With a qualification in Mathematics you could go on to Further or Higher Education, studying Mathematics or related subjects such as engineering, economics or accountancy.  It is essential for mathematics or statistics based subjects such as engineering. Mathematics is also a very well-respected subject in its own right and suitable for entry into a wide range of professions.
