Horse Care and Management Level 3 at Bridgwater College

Course description

This course is suitable for anyone who wishes to study horse care and management in the work place rather than attending a full time college course. To complete this course you will need to secure a place at one of the College's approved training centres.

This course will run at one of our approved training centres across the South West. Times and dates will vary.

Course content

You will study a range of topics that will enable you to work effectively with horses and develop your supervisory skills. The topics studied will include:

  • Horse diseases and health
  • Transportation
  • Nutrition and diet formulation
  • Health and safety
  • Clipping

You may also decide to undertake and complete ridden units.  The programme will be based in one of our approved training centres so you will be learning in an industry-based commercial environment.

Entry requirements

You will need to have achieved the Level 2 Work-based Diploma in Horse Care or BHS Stage 2 Certificate or relevant industrial experience. You will need to be able to demonstrate knowledge and enthusiasm for this subject.


You will be assessed through completion of coursework and practical assessments within your work place and while at College.

Future opportunities

Students who successfully attained Level 3 can enter the industry at supervisory level (yard manager or running your own yard).
