Brickwork - Level 2 Diploma at Redcar & Cleveland College

Course description

This course develops knowledge of trowel occupations. Modules include: thin joint masonry and construction technology; brick and block work; and health and safety.

Course content

Diploma Level 2 in Bricklaying This is a full time 1 year course usually run over 2.5 days and you need to complete 6 Mandatory units to achieve. The course will cover :

  • Safe working practices
  • Knowledge of information
  • Quantities and communication with others
  • Knowledge of building methods and technology
  • Build structural and decorative brickwork
  • How to repair and maintain masonry structures
  • Building complex masonry structures

Entry requirements

You will need four GCSEs at grades D-~E or above or Brickwork Diploma Level 1.

Assessment

You will have theory sessions in a designated classroom, practical sessions will take place in a bespoke workshop were each model you build will be assessed. Advanced brickwork models may remain on display in the workshop.

Future opportunities

Progression would be Advanced Bricklaying Level 3, or a full time Apprenticeship

Further information

During your time on the course we have various competitions that our students actively take part in these include Skillbuild, The Guild of Bricklayers Competition and Inter College Competitions. These competitions give our learners the chance to compete against other colleges and to travel to different parts of the region. We also attend various exhibitions at different venues such as Birmingham NEC and London Excel Centre
