French A Level at The National CofE Academy

Course description

A-level French helps students develop confident, effective communication skills in the language chosen and a thorough understanding of the culture of countries and communities where the language is spoken.

This four-unit specification requires students to develop their ability to write and speak the language chosen with accurate grammar and syntax for a range of purposes and to understand written or spoken form of the language in a variety of contexts and genres.

This A-level requires students to complete all four units; 2 units at AS level and a further 2 units at A2 level.

Entry requirements

Students must have achieved at least a grade B at GCSE.



Unit 1    2 hours                 Listening, Reading and Writing                     70% of the total AS marks

35% of the total A-level marks

Unit 2    35 minutes          Speaking                                                              30% of the total AS marks

(including 20minutes preparation time)                                                     15% of the total A-level marks



Unit 3    2½ hours              Listening, Reading and Writing                   35% of the total A-level marks

Unit 4    35 minutes          Speaking                                                              15% of the total A-level marks

(including 20minutes preparation time)
