Fabrication and Welding Level 2 at Northampton College

Course description

If you have already got some experience of Engineering or would like to specialise in Fabrication and Welding this study programme will develop your skills and knowledge to become an industry specialist. The study programme is delivered through a combination of classroom based theory and practical workshop sessions over a number of mandatory and specialist units including: - Working in engineering - Principles of engineering technology - Welding by Manual Metal Arc process - Fabricating steel work assemblies - Pattern development for plate and sheet metalwork.

Course content

New industry entrants with some experience of Engineering processes and principles and progression from Level 1 engineering.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at Grade D or above including English and Maths or an appropriate Level 1 with GCSE English and Maths at Grade D or above or the appropriate Functional Skills in English and Maths at Level 1


The course is assessed by a combination of online exams, assignments and practical assessments.

Future opportunities

Additional specialist units may be selects (subject to demand). Progression is to level 3 Fabrication and Welding or apprenticeships.Completion of qualifications will support your progress in a wide range of engineering roles including; Sheet metal worker or Fabricator-Welder.
