Hair and Media Make-up Diploma Level 2 at York College
The subjects covered include the theory and practice of:
Health and Safety
Client care and communication in the beauty-related industry
The art of photographic make-up
The art of dressing hair
Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector
Theme face painting
Body art design
Colour and lighten hair
Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
4 GCSEs at A*-D or acceptable alternatives including English Language (grade 3+ and above).
You must have the ability to meet deadlines and work hard. You must be reliable and able to work under supervision.
You will study core and specialist units in how to apply make-up, instruct on make-up, the art of photographic make up, body art design, eyelash and eyebrow treatments, hairdressing – the art of dressing hair and colouring, create an image based on a theme, make and style – postiche, anatomy and physiology, health and safety, client care and communication.
Practical and theoretical assessment.
Written questions, assignment work, questioning and external exams online are all part of the assessment process. You will be required to provide you own models.
You could progress on to Level 3. To do this you need to have completed Level 2, have a minimum attendance record of 90 per cent and a good behaviour record. Progression from Level 2 to
3 is not automatic. Re-interview is required.
You could gain employment in the beauty therapy industry, eg in a salon, consultancy work, as a demonstrator for product manufacturers, on cruise liners, and self-employment following a period of industrial experience. Past students have progressed in salon and retail outlets.
You could study further and take higher level qualifications, which could lead to specialising in a specific area such as Media Make-up, Hairdressing or Beauty.
