Media Studies GCSE (AQA) at Ryburn Valley High School

Course description

Over the two years studying GCSE Media, students will have to submit three pieces of coursework. One piece of coursework must be based on textual analysis. This will allow the student to demonstrate their ability to deconstruct media texts, for example, students this year will be analysing CD covers. The other piece of coursework must be based on pre-production. Students this year are completing a number of set tasks about the Sci-fi genre. The final piece must be based on production. Students this year are creating their own music video. Students in the second year studying media will sit a written examination. This paper is divided into two sections. Section A has four compulsory questions which is worth 50% and Section B which has four compulsory questions is also worth 50%.

Future opportunities

You could take this course to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A/AS Level in Media Studies or you may need to strengthen your grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification.With further training, you could go into a job related to the media such as a Journalist, Newspaper Editor or TV Producer. You could also go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of your employer.
