Psychology at Park Hall Academy

Course description

AQA Advanced Subsidiary GCE in Psychology. Psychology is all about the study of human behaviour; the study of how people think, feel and react to others.

Course content

You will learn of the different ways in which psychologists have tried to study and explain many different aspects of human behaviour.

The course is broken down into a number of distinct components, each of which examines human behaviour from aslightly different angle.

You will be introduced to the scientific nature of Psychology and the key perspectives that run through the whole course.  You will develop an understanding of the variety of methods used in Psychology Research and see how Social Psychology may be applied to Social and Cultural issues.

You wil learn to appreciate the breadth of theoretical approaches in Psychology and engage in key debates.

Entry requirements

5 A* to C grades in GCSE examined subjects

Assessment

You will develop: 

The ability to investigate explanations for human behaviour with reference to psychological studies.  (Behaviours include stress, sleep, memory, addiction and abnormal behaviour).

An understanding of how to evaluate psychological theories in terms of their strengths and weaknesses, eveidence and applications to the real world.

An appreciation of the different experimental and non experimental methods used by psychologists to investigate human behvaiour.

Future opportunities

You will gain many transferable skills that you learn and develop whilst on this course.  The knowledge that you will gain will prepare you for a range of careers and university courses such as:
