Applied Science Diploma Level 1 at Canterbury College

Course description

This course is an introduction to working in a science-related job. It will develop your confidence in their ability to work, learn and achieve in scientific a careers, and also leads to higher-level courses. This course involves work experience.

Course content

You will learn about: starting work in the science sector; using equipment to make scientific observations and measurements; living systems; exploring space; useful plants; and health & disease detection. You will also learn functional skills. You'll be taught by a combination of lectures, workshops, practical exercises, work experience and independent research study.

Entry requirements

You will need GSCEs at grades D to F. Entry onto the course is subject to an interview and a good reference.

Assessment

You will put together a portfolio of your work.

Future opportunities

You can go on to the Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science (and continue through the levels to university, and eventually into a science-related career).

Further information

Work experience is an essential part of the course. Help will be given when you are seeking a work placement.

You will have the opportunity to broaden your knowledge with field trips and educational visits.
