Course description


This qualification is the equivalent of 3 A Levels.

The sport industry continues to be one of the fasting growing and most exciting areas for employment in the UK, contributing over £20.3 billion to the national economy in 2010. Career opportunities are available in a wide range of areas including fitness training, coaching, teaching and sports science. This study pathway will allow you to develop an exciting set of skills to allow progress in to a career in sport and physical activity development, either directly or through higher education

Course content

Mandatory units:

• Anatomy and Physiology

• Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being

• Professional Development in the Sports Industry

• Sports Leadership

• Application of Fitness Testing

• Sports Psychology

• Research Methods in Sport

• Development and Provision of Sport and Physical Activity

Optional units:

A further 7 optional units will be studied in addition to the 8 mandatory units. These will be chosen to meet the needs of the cohort and could include:

• Practical Sports Performance

• Instructing Gym-based Exercise

• Instructing Exercise to Music

• Work Experience in Active Leisure

• Technical and Tactical Demands of Sport

• Sports Performance Analysis

• Sports Massage

• Team Building

Entry requirements

5 GCSE A* - C grades including English & Maths


Assessment methods:

You will be assessed through a range of methods including:

• 1 external written exam

• 2 tasks that are set and marked by Pearson

• 12 assignments which are set and marked internally
