Hospitality BTEC Level 3 at Darwen Aldridge Community Academy

Course description

Why choose BTEC Level 3 Hospitality?
Whether you see yourself working in a 5-star luxury hotel, planning corporate events, setting up your own hospitality business or working in a science/healthcare role, this course can help you to start developing the skills you’ll need to build a successful career. This course is equivalent to one A Level, and you will learn customer service skills, teamwork and management skills as well as practical cookery and food service techniques. Students who demonstrate the necessary ability may be able to take the 90-credit Diploma and gain the equivalent of one and a half A Levels.

You will learn in the classroom and our state of the art training kitchens as well as gain valuable practical experience from serving real customers. We also encourage you to produce confectionary and other foodstuffs which you can sell (and keep the profits from) in one of our in-house concessions such as Scholar’s Café.

What will I study?
There are no exams and you will complete 3 compulsory units and 4 option units:

  • Introduction to the hospitality industry
  • Principles of supervising customer service performance
  • Providing customer service in hospitality
  • European food
  • Contemporary world food
  • Environment and sustainability in hospitality
  • Planning and managing a hospitality event.

What can I study it with?
The course combines well with many others and we will advise you according to the career path you have in mind. If you’re planning a career in nutrition it combines well with Sport, Applied Science and Human Biology. If you’re planning a health-care role (e.g. dietician, health promotion, environmental health) it combines well with Applied Science, Human Biology and Health & Social Care. If you wish to go into hotel or events management or set up your own business it combines well with Business and Travel & Tourism.
