Hospitality and Catering - City & Guilds Diploma in Professional Patisserie and Confectionery (Level 2) at Hopwood Hall College

Course description

This course is designed for those who wish to pursue a career in the hospitality and catering industry.
 
Culinary and service skills will be developed in our contemporary licensed Riverside Restaurant, college bistros and workshops in our new training and bakery kitchens, alongside theory classes which will underpin your development preparing you for employment in the industry. You will have the opportunity to gain lots of hands-on work experience providing you with an ideal start to your career in catering.
 
There are many careers for successful students at all levels with the skills acquired at college enabling you to move into a range of catering positions.

Course content

• Developing culinary skills to produce: vegetable and vegetarian dishes, meat, poultry and game, fish and shellfish, patisserie and fermented products, desserts, petit fours and decorative products
• Professional patisserie and bakery
• Professional food, bar and customer service skills
• Event planning, marketing and costing
• External work experience in hotels such as the two Michelin star L’enclume, Stanley House, The Villla @ Wrea Green, Decker’s restaurants, The French at the Midland and many more

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs grade D or above to include English and Mathematics.

Financial information

No cost for 16-19 year olds.

Future opportunities

After completing this course the next step is to progress onto the Apprenticeship in Bakery or Level 3 Diploma in Professional Patisserie & Confectionery.

      The Rochdale campus is 2.6 miles from junction 20 of the M62. Follow the signs for Rochdale town centre
      By Rail:
      Rochdale train station, with frequent connections to Leeds, Bradford and Manchester, is a ten minute walk from the Rochdale Campus through the town centre. It is also a Metrolink station, Manchester’s light railway system, which links Rochdale with Oldham, Bury and Manchester City Centre.
      By Bus: 
      The Rochdale bus station is approximately 5 minutes walk from the Rochdale campus. There are frequent bus services throughout the borough which terminate in Rochdale.
