Painting and Decorating Level 3 Diploma at Truro and Penwith College

Course description

This qualification has been designed around the needs of employers within the construction industry, in particular Painting and Decorating and provides a mix of both practical and theory-based teaching at a more complex and advanced level and learning in a realistic workshop and classroom environment.

During the course you will develop and practice the skills required for employment and career progression as a Painter and Decorator through the study of more complex units such as: principles of organising, planning and pricing construction work, applying hangings to walls and ceilings, producing specialist finishes for painted decorative work, producing specialist architectural finishes for decorative work, applying water borne paint systems using airless equipment and applying water borne paint systems using high volume low pressure (HVLP) spray equipment.

On this full time 1 year full time programme of study you will learn to develop higher level advanced skills as a Painter and Decorator allowing you to work on more complex areas with more complex materials, equipment and products.

You will also learn to use the hand tools, power tools and other equipment associated with the trade to enable you to produce quality Painting and Decorating finishes to a high industry standard.

Truro and Penwith College have extremely realistic simulated work environments and new painting and decorating workshops where you will learn and develop your practical skills as well as the most up to date professional tools and equipment to make your study here as close  to a real working environment as possible.

During the course you will further develop skills learnt at Level 2 in Painting and Decorating and develop further as a Painter and Decorator. Passing this course could also enable progression to employment or study of higher level qualifications. If you are not exempt, there is a requirement to complete Functional Skills or GCSE qualifications alongside mainstream studies.

  • Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms
  • Applying hangings to walls and ceilings
  • Producing specialist finishes for painted decorative work
  • Applying water-borne paint systems using airless equipment
  • Applying water-borne paint systems using High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) spray equipment.

Entry requirements

Successful completion of a Level 2 Diploma in Painting & Decorating

Assessment

The Level 3 Diploma in Painting & Decorating will be assessed through set practical units alongside internally set multiple choice question papers and extrenally set online exams.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of this course can lead directly to employment or further study.
