Geography AS/A2 at Torpoint Community College

Course description

In Geography you will explore a range of human and physical processes heavily connected to today’s modern world. Beginning with the dangerous nature of our risky world, the physical geography takes you through the causes, impacts and solutions of hazards.

This is followed by an issue closer to home with our crowded coasts.

What makes them so unique and beautiful?

And why are they so vulnerable to damage?

You will explore the increasingly global nature of the world with its transfers of cultures and ideas, and you will consider the unfairness of this modern connected world. Within the concept of rebranding places, you will look at the need to recreate areas, changing their purpose and design to encourage growth and development.

By exploring the full range of the contested planet you will discover why we fight over resources, how cultures control each other, and how we impact on the world around us?

Research and fieldwork skills are vital for the course and they are developed throughout with fieldwork and a specific research project. Geography works well with any combination of subjects and is accepted by all Universities. Many Geography students study Geography alongside History, Biology, English Literature and Language, and even Textiles!
