English Re-Take at Uplands Community College School Sixth Form

Course description

This course provides the opportunity to retake the English Language element of your GCSE.

Course content

In preparation for an examination in January or the summer, you will develop and consolidate the reading and writing skills covered in Year 11.

Sessions will be closely tailored to your learning needs and you will enjoy guidance and advice in small teaching groups.  You will study a range of short fiction and non-fiction extracts in preparation for Paper 1 and Paper 2 examinations.  A range of writing styles for different purposes and audiences will also be covered, with a close focus on accuracy and the skills you need to succeed in your other options.

Entry requirements

Students will usually have studied GCSE English in Year 11.  However, due to changes to the examination system, all students will be required to complete a new coursework folder for the retake exam.

Future opportunities

GCSE English Language with as high a grade as possible is a vital part of anyone’s set of qualifications as they progress further in education, training and/or employment.  Many courses and careers demand at least a grade C as a condition of entry.  Therefore, students in Uplands Sixth Form who have not yet achieved this have the opportunity to acquire this important qualification.
