As / A2 Level Dance at St Michael's Catholic High School
Aims of the course:
To enable students to gain knowledge and understanding of the dancer; as a performer, the process and craft of choreography and the significance of dances.
To provide students with the opportunity to acquire experience of performance and choreography, and to engage in critical thinking about dance.
This is a physically and academically demanding course, requiring motivation and commitment.
The core areas explored include development of technique, the art of choreography, anatomy, health and fitness, the history of Dance and the analysis of professional works. Students will also enjoy opportunities to perform at school events and will be expected to frequent the theatre and attend professional workshops. There will be practical investigations into the process of solo choreography, the development of physical and interpretive skills and the development of performance skills within a duo or trio. Their experiences will be documented in a choreographic journal.
The first year of the course is divided into two units.
GCSE Grade Cs in any 5 subjects - must include English Language and Science. Must have had at least two years formal dance training in Ballet, Contemporary or Jazz Dance.
