French or German at Dyson Perrins CofE Academy

Course description

Learning a language at A Level is so much more than merely developing one’s linguistic ability. It teaches skills that are highly valued by universities and employers alike; students who have a qualification in languages have a very high rate of employment. A language qualification affords you the opportunity of working abroad and opens your eyes and your mind to a whole world of culture. It is also a very versatile subject which can leave a myriad of options open to you. Enjoy!


AS Level Units
Students cover the following topics during the course; media including television and advertising, popular culture including cinema and music, healthy living/lifestyle and family/relationships.
Unit 1 – Listening, Reading and Writing (2 hour written exam)
Unit 2 – Speaking (35 minutes speaking test, including 20 minutes preparation)


A2 Units
Students cover the following topics during the course:
* the environment, the multicultural society, contemporary social issues such as wealth and poverty, law and order and scientific and technological progress. Students also study a cultural topic which may include the study of French or German speaking regions or an author.
Unit 3– Listening, Reading and Writing (2 hours 30 minutes written exam) Unit 4 – Speaking (35 minutes speaking test, including 20 minutes preparation)

Entry requirements

Students need to have a GCSE in French or German because language learning is on-going. It is assumed that students have studied the language for at least 4 years
