Physics A Level at Christ the King Sixth Form College - St Mary's

Course description

Physics is the study of matter and energy and how they interact with each other. It deals with matter on scales ranging from sub-atomic particles to stars and even entire galaxies. On this course you will study a wide range of topics, including motion and forces, electrons, photons and waves. You will study how Physics plays its part in industry, medicine and cosmology.

Units studied include:

  • Unit 1 – ‘Physics on the go’. Topics include mechanics and the properties of materials.
  • Unit 2 – ‘Physics at work’. Topics include waves, electricity and the nature of light.
  • Unit 3 – Topics include further mechanics, electric and magnetic fields and particle Physics
  • Unit 4 – Topics include thermal energy, nuclear decay, oscillations, astronomy and cosmology

Entry requirements

GCSE Physics (A*–B) or GCSE Double Science (A*–B). In addition, GCSE Mathematics (A*–B) is required.
