Maths GCSE at Northampton School for Girls
The syllabus is the Intermediate GCSE syllabus which will include all of the work you studied in Y10 and Y11 plus some extra topics which have been added onto the new syllabus for 2003. You will be able to re-use and improve on your best piece of investigational coursework from Y11 and you will have to do a substantial statistical investigation.
What you will do · Number work - including decimals, fractions, percentages, ratio.· Algebra - including manipulating expressions and solving linear and quadratic equations and inequalities.· Graph work - plotting, sketching and recognising a range of graphs. Using graphs to solve equations. Interpreting real life graphs including distance-time and speed-time.· Statistics - discrete and continuous data, mean, mode and median. Measures of spread and appropriate use of statistical calculations and diagrams. Drawing conclusions from statistical data.Probability - simple and combined events and the use of tree diagrams.
A determination to achieve a grade 'C' at GCSE.
You will find it almost impossible to gain entry to Higher education without a grade 'C' or higher at GCSE Mathematics.Achieving a 'C' or above is a proven advantage when seeking any kind of employment.
