Graphic Design : A Level at Gateway College
This highly creative course aims to introduce you to a wide range of materials and techniques to develop strong ideas and communication skills. Utilising traditional skills in drawing, painting and printmaking you will combine these with a rich mix of digital applications. This course also allows you to specialise and develop skills in Illustration, Typography, Web Design and Animation. Gateway is known for an outstanding end of year exhibition which is open to the public. Your work may feature in this.
There are a range of extension opportunities for students studying all courses in Art and Design. Previously students have been engaged in a Live Brief – working closely with a Web Designer. We also benefit from a programme of visiting speakers and professional workshops carried out by practitioners that work in the Art and Design Industry. Each year students participate in creating for the Gateway Fashion Show (December) and display individual Art and Design work in the Summer End of Year Exhibition (June).
6 GCSEs at grade 9-5 including English Language and Maths. A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 6.
GCSE Art at grade C is essential.
Portfolio of practical research, developmental work and final outcomes.

Gateway has an excellent reputation for its creative courses. Many students progress onto the highly successful BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design or to a variety of high profile BA (Hons) Degree courses.
