Hair and Media Make-up Level 2 Diploma at Hertford Regional College

Course description

An introduction to the basic skills you will need as a make-up artist in the exciting world of TV, theatre and film. A hands-on course, which will require you to have an artistic and creative flare.  You will start to develop the skills to create a range of make-up looks and basic body art. You will also develop the art of dressing hair including setting, blow-drying and putting hair up and the art of colouring and weft making.

Course content

  • Industry relevant topics, both practically and theoretically e.g apply make-up, eyelash and brow treatments, creating an image, art of photographic make-up, body art design, skin tanning techniques, the art of colouring and dressing hair and styling a hair addtion
  • Working in beauty related industries, health and safety, client care and attend an industrial placement

Entry requirements

  • Have a minimum of 176 GCSE entry points including English grade D or above. Creative areas such as Art and Design will also be considered.
  • You will need good communication skills
  • If progressing from a Level 1 Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy qualification you must have demonstrated good attendance and timekeeping

Assessment

Assessment is ongoing throughout the course. You will be guided and supported in practical and theoretical sessions. Skills will be assessed as soon as you and your assessor consider it is appropriate.  One day a week work placement is ideal to enhance learning and prepare for assessment and industry.

Financial information

Free to those under 19 on 31st August 2016. If you are 19 or over on 31st August 2016, have been a permanent resident in the EU for the last three years, and are a fee paying new entrant you will pay £1500 tuition fee (this was the fee for 2015/16 and could be subject to change for 2016/17). However, fee paying students continuing on the same course for a second year will be charged £1500 tuition fee (this was the fee for 2015/16 and could be subject to change for 2016/17). You will be required to pay an administration fee, exam fees, kit fee, materials fee and an Awarding Body Registration fee if applicable. For these costs please contact our Information Centre.

Future opportunities

You can progress onto Hair and Media Make-Up City & Guilds Level 3 or onto employment.

Additional Activities 

  • Depending on your prior achievements, you may be able to re-sit GCSE English and/or Maths or attend Functional Skills English and/or Maths.
  • Enrichment activities (trips/visits) will be arranged which are beneficial to this course and learning.If these are optional, additional fees will be charged to you; compulsory enrichment activities will be free of charge. Details are provided once the course starts.
  • 60 hours work placement in the Media Industry.
