Life and Independent Living Skills at Bath College

Course description

Students will complete an NOCN Diploma in Independent Living Skills, an ASDAN certificate in Employability or Personal Progress and two functional skills qualifications in English, maths or IT.

All students will have the opportunity to take part in a work experience placement. The course is aimed at students between 16 and 25 who have experienced difficulties with learning.

This course focuses on developing life and work skills through practical classes. Extra support is available to students through lunchtime and breaks.

Units include:

  • Cooking independently
  • ICT
  • Gardening
  • English
  • Maths
  • Art

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. Students will need to have an interview and an English and maths assessment to determine their level.


Practical observations and a portfolio of work. You will complete a paper assessment for functional skills English and maths

Future opportunities

Progress to a Diploma at Entry 2 or Entry 3. Students who have completed the Diploma at Entry 3 can progress to the Vocational Access Programme or an appropriate course at Level 1.
