Art and Design A level at Ellesmere Port Catholic High School

Course description

Year 12 outline:

Autumn term 1:  Personal creative enquiry. 100% coursework. Research and development of chosen theme.  Sketchbook and design sheet work. Printmaking skills - lino prints.

Autumn term 2:  Art residential weekend, Anglesey. Development of ideas, testing and final outcomes. Printmaking skills - collagraphs.  Review and modify designs based on assessments.

Spring term 1:  2 nd part of personal creative enquiry.  Development of ideas and different media explored. Drawing skills. Gallery visit.

Spring term 2:  Further developments and ideas and testing. 2nd final outcomes. 3D skills - casting.

Summer term 1:  Completion/improvement of all coursework elements - sketchbooks, skills design sheets and final 2D and 3D outcomes.

Summer term 2:  Assist with preparation for A level art exhibition. Research for A level coursework, exploring themes for the start of personal investigation.

Year 13 outline:

Autumn term 1:  personal investigation.  research and development of chosen theme.  Tests and sketchbook and design sheet work.

Autumn term 2:  Personal investigation and written requirement.  Research and development of chosen theme, first final outcomes.  5 hour PPE.  Formal assessment.  Review and modify designs based on assessments.

Spring term 1:  Personal investigation and written requirement completed end of January. Externally set task from Feb 1st.  Gallery visit.

Spring term 2:  Externally set task exam preparation. Continuing on development of ideas and stretch and challenge element of exam.

Summer term 1:  Completing exam preparation for external practical 12 hour exam at end of April.  Further improvement and completion of cousework.  Final deadline 3rd May.  Preparation for art exhibition - photographing work and designing exhibition poster, invites and catalogue.

Summer term 2:  Preparation for Art moderation at end of year A level art exhibition private view.
