Biology A Level at Lytham Sixth Form College

Course description

A Biology A level can lead to a variety of careers, among them medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, nursing, forensic science, biochemistry, genetics, marine biology, horticulture and zoology. Through a variety of learning styles (group discussions, presentations, role plays, research and practical laboratory work) you will develop knowledge and skills across this fascinating branch of science. Our two-year programme features the following units: Biology and Disease; The Variety of Living Organisms; Investigative and Practical Skills; Populations and Environment; Control on Cells and in Organisms. Degree level study is a popular progression route for students, leading to one of the career areas highlighted above.

Entry requirements

In order to study this A level programme students must gain 5 GCSEs at grades A* - C or an equivalent full Level 2 qualification, including English Language, Maths and Biology or Dual Science at grade B or Merit.

Assessment

A Levels are assessed by a mixture of coursework and exams.

You could be eligible for a 16-19 bursary to help with education-related costs.
