A Level Economics at Theale Green School

Course description

Economics provides you with the ability to understand how consumers, businesses and governments make decisions about how to allocate our resources. It enables you to evaluate the economic decisions made by government and how effective these will be in achieving our economic objectives.

We explore the questions:

  • How can the environment be protected as a resource?
  • Should interest rates be increased to reduce inflation?
  • Should large companies such as Tesco be allowed to make large profits?
  • Why do we provide education and health care free at the point of need and how should this be paid for?
  • What is the importance of the housing market?
  • Why do economies suffer recessions?

We discuss the current economic issues of the day and apply accepted economic theory in order to understand and evaluate the consequences of the different economic policies available.

For example, how can the Government solve the looming pensions crisis? What will be the consequences of the rapid increase in household debt?
