Explore your creativity with this introduction to Performing and Production Arts, Music Performance, and Music Technology. Work as part of a production team, creating content.

Course content

This Study Programme will provide you with many transferable skills including: Working in the industry, Creating a Production, Producing Recordings, Crewing for Live Productions, Exploring Computer Systems used by Performers and Technicians, Exploring Composition & Devising, Technology & Performance Skills and Professional Development.Units are dependent on your chosen pathway e.g. Performing Arts will cover Acting, Musical Theatre etc., Music Performance will focus on Ensemble and solo playing, Music Technology will cover software and gig set ups.You will also study English and Maths, and get involved in industry based projects that will further enhance your employability and progression opportunities. The Study Programme also contains additional challenges in the form of community based activities.Our new £3.3m Centre for Creative Industries will include a theatre, digital media suite and music performance spaces, developing skills and training in Digital Industries as well as other creative areas.

Entry requirements

You will need at least four GCSEs at grade D or E including English (or equivalent) and/or a successful portfolio, or relevant experience. You will also need a satisfactory school report/reference.

Assessment

Assessment will be through a combination of practical, written, and presentation assignments. This is a mainly practical course with written work as supporting evidence, and assessments based on practical work skills.Functional skills are exam based.

Financial information

The College supplies most materials and equipment, but students may have to pay for trips, which should not exceed £40 in total. Students will also need to provide their own headphones. Help with essential equipment costs may be available to students who experience financial difficulties.For Performing Arts students there is a compulsory locker charge of £5 at the beginning of the year, which is returned at the end if there is no damage. They will also be required to have dance trousers or black tracksuit bottoms (without elastic round the bottom) and black dance shoes or trainers.East Kent College Performing Arts T-shirts/Jumpers are approximately £10 - £15 each. If you are 16-18yrs old at the start of the Study Programme, it will be free. There may be additional payments required for trips, visits and other materials. For adult learners (over 19) financial support towards the costs of your Study Programme may be available. Eligible students may be able to get help with course related costs such as travel, equipment and childcare. Please note: For those claiming state working age benefit this course is classed as part-time.

Future opportunities

On successful completion, you could progress onto one of our Level 3 programmes in Music Technology, Performing Arts or Music Performance.Alternatively, you could seek employment in the recording and performance industry, or in arts administration. A lot of companies employ students with performing arts qualifications as they have excellent communication, leadership and team skills.
