Physical Education A Level at Gordano School

Course description

By undertaking this course you will develop skills and techniques required to perform
effectively in physical activities. You will also learn to apply your skills to different roles, such as performer, leader/coach and official.
You will also develop your knowledge and understanding of the scientific elements of
sport such as anatomy and physiology, how skills are learnt and how sport has developed through the ages into the activities we see today.

Course content

1: Applied anatomy and physiology, Exercise physiology, Biomechanics Component
2: Skill acquisition, sports psychology
Component 3: Sport and society, contemp. issues
Component 4: Performance/ coaching and evaluation and analysis of performance

Entry requirements

Participation in regular competitive sport either inside or out of school is essential.

Future opportunities

This course can you lead into a wide range of HE courses and/or could help you towards careers such as sports management, teaching, physiotherapy, sports science, coaching or sports journalism. PE has some overlap with Biology and Psychology.
