AQA Computing A Level at Teesdale School

Course description

This course is designed for people who are looking for a deeper understanding of how computers work, exploring a number of theoretical aspects of comptability and problem solving, as well as learning to write computer programs using Visual Basic.net. At AS level there are two examinations, one of which is computer based. At A2, there is one examination and one extended project.

Students will learn basic structures on which a computer is built, ranging from logic gates to the fetch-execute cycle, as well as a range of different hardware and software. Students will also learn to create basic web sites by using HTML and CSS as well as developing programs involving loops, procedures, functions and selection techniques to solve problems using VB.net.

One of the key things you develop on the course is problem solving skills, as often there is not just one specific answer to a problem.  This is one aspect that is important for all of life, not just at school.
