Business Studies, A Level at Oldham Sixth Form College (OSFC)

Course description

Are you a budding entrepreneur? Want to know how to make your first million? You will learn the technicalities of how businesses work, what makes them profitable and how they keep strict control over their finances. You’ll learn about business from both the consumer and business perspective. You’ll cover everything from how to discover what customers demand to the best methods used to hire (and fire) staff. We also look at how businesses try to handle something they have little control over; the economy. You will understand the impact the economy has and how businesses dealt with the biggest economic crisis of our lifetime.

At OSFC we organise an annual Business Conference where speakers from various businesses run workshops that allow students to problem solve. Firms that conducted workshops in the past include HSBC, JJB Sport, Pricewaterhousecoopers, Chartered Wealth Management Ltd, Pancake Corner, and Subway. You will have opportunity to participate in a variety of trips including day visits to the Jaguar Land Rover factory, Alton Towers, or Cadbury World. We encourages students to participate in the London residential where you’ll have the chance to visit The Bank of England and The Metal Exchange, as well as the Financial District.
