English Literature at St George's Catholic School
English Literature is a hugely respected A level by universities and can lead into almost any career. We study the English Litarature AQA B syllabus which focuses on narrative forms and comedy in the first year and the Gothic genre in the second year.
Students will read such classics as The Great Gatsby, Keats and Coleridge and Much Ado about Nothing, combined with modern texts Jerusalem by Jez Butterworth and The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini in their first year.
In the second year, there is great scope for independent reading and an in depth study of the Gothic genre, looking at texts like Frankenstein, Dracula, Macbeth and The Bloody Chamber.
