Textiles & Fashion Extended Diploma at Pendleton Sixth Form College

Course description

This course is created to help you develop your design ability and to teach technical making skills. It wil encourage you to explore your creativity and ideas through the practice of research, drawing design development and technical skills as well as gain an understanding of colour, texture, pattern and form, in order to create a body of innovative designs.

Course content

You will study a variety of topics such as:

  •  Laser cutting and digital design
  • Pattern cutting and garment construction
  • Fashion styling and promotion
  • Research and design development skills
  • Surface pattern for fashion/interiors
  • Professional presentation techniques
  • Trends and forecasting

 

Entry requirements

Advances Level  5 Cs/ 4s at GCSE

Intermediate Level  4 Ds/3s at GCSE

Assessment

The course is assessed through practical based assignments, continually assessed throughout each year.  At the end of the first year at Advanced level you will achieve a 90 credit level 3 diploma and the end of the second year you will achieve an extended diploma. The latter will provide an opportunity to progress to Higher Education

All courses are free to 16-18 year olds who are EU citizens

Future opportunities

This course can lead you on to university level study preparing you for careers in textile design, fashion design and surface pattern design. Some students go directly into employment as trainees in the fashion industry. Students can also progress internally on to our Level 4 Art & Design Foundation course.
