Physics A Level at Tyne Metropolitan College

Course description

Physics explores the nature of the universe. Your studies will take you from subatomic particles to giant galaxies and cosmological objects.

A Level Physics includes topics such as mechanics and electricity that will benefit progression into engineering.

You will also delve into cutting-edge topics such as quantum physics, particle physics and cosmology that will change the way you view the world around you!

Course content

AS - Practical skills, quantum physics, waves, mechanics and electricity.

A Level - Thermal physics, fields, nuclear physics, astrophysics and cosmology.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs Grade A* to C including Grade B in Maths, Grade BB in Double Science or Grade B in Physics.

Assessment

AS/A Level – Two exams (each representing 40% of your grade). The other 20% is coursework.

Future opportunities

Higher Education – Engineering, Physics and other Science-related courses and degrees.

Careers include: Meteorology, radiography, energy resources and conservation, medical physics, teaching and engineering.
