This is an A-Level course in Drama and Theatre Studies, consisting of 5 modules.

Course content

AS:

Component 1 - Exploration and Performance

  • Teacher directed group performance of an extract from a text, influenced by the work of a practitioner
  • Performance of a monologue/duologue of an extract from a second text
  • Portfolio of written notes detailing process [2000 - 2500 words]
  • Assessed internally - moderated by exam board

Component 2 - Theatre makers in practice

  • Review of live performance - 500 words notes to be taken into exam
  • Study of one complete set text
  • Page to stage - 2 x questions explaining how an unseen extract text could be interpreted in performance. Response from point of view of a performer and a designer

A-Level:

Component 1 - Devising

  • Devising and performing an original piece, based upon a section from a text and influenced by the work of a practitioner
  • Portfolio of written notes [3000 words]
  • Assessed internally—moderated by exam board

Component 2 - Text in Performance

  • Teacher directed group performance from a text, influenced by the work of a practitioner
  • Performance of a monologue/duologue from an extract from a second text
  • Written statement of intentions
  • Assessed by visiting examiner

Component 3 - Theatre Makers in Practice

  • Written exam
  • Review of live performance - 500 words notes to be taken into exam
  • Study of two complete set texts
  • Page to stage realisation - 2 x questions explaining how an unseen extract from one text could be interpreted in performance. Response from point of view of performer and designer
  • Interpretation of one complete text in light of a second practitioner for performance to a contemporary audience. Response from the point of view of director.

Assessment

AS Written exam: (Component 2)

  • 1hr 45 mins - 48 Marks
  • This exam has 2 sections: Section A: Theatre review (16 marks) Section B: Realising a performance text (32 marks)

A Level Performance Exam (evening)

  • Group performance of an extract from a chosen text demonstrating influence of a practitioner
  • Performance of a monologue or duologue from

A Level Written Exam

  • 2 1/2 hours—80 marks
  • This exam has 3 sections:
  • Section A: Theatre review (20 marks)
  • Section B - Realising a Performance Text (36 marks)
  • Section C - Interpreting a Text for Performance (24 Marks)
