BTEC Level 3 in Sport at Millbrook Academy

Course description

This is a full time 2 year course providing a specialist, work-related programme of study in sport. It covers the key knowledge and practical skills required for those who have already decided the specialist area they wish to study.

If you not only enjoy taking part in sport, have a keen interest in Biology, but have a real interest in the aspects surrounding and supporting performance then this course is for you. It will give you the opportunity  to develop your knowledge and investigate a wide range of aspects; from the scientific to the sociological, from the psychological to the nutritional.

It has been set up for those students who have a real interest in the theoretical and practical aspects of sports performance and excellence.

You will be taught by specialist teachers in the Sports classroom, Sports hall, Astro-turf, fitness suite and playing fields.

 

Course content

Certificate in Sport and Excercise Sciences AS level, 1 Year

3 Mandatory Units -

  • Anatomy for Sport and Excercise
  • Sport and Excercise Physiology
  • Sport and Excercise Psychology

Subsidiary Diploma in Sport and Excercise Sciences A2 (1 level) 2 Year (progression to this level is dependent on year 1 being completed.

3Mandatory Units -

 

  • Anatomy for Sport and Excercise
  • Sport and Excercise Physiology
  • Sport and Excercise Psychology

Optional Units -

  • Research Methods for Sport and Excercise Sciences
  • Fitness training and programming.
  • Current issues in Sport.

Diploma in Sport and Excercise Sciences. 2 A levels - 2 years

5 Mandatory Units

  • Anatomy for Sport and Excercise
  • Sport and Excercise Physiology
  • Sport and Excercise Psychology
  • Research methods for Sport and Excercise Sciences
  • Research Project in Sport and Excercise Sciences

Optional Units -

  • Fitness Training and Programming
  • Current Issues in Sport
  • Sport Biomechanics in action
  • Analysis of Sports performance
  • Instructing physical activityand Excercise
  • Sports Nutrition
  • Profiling Sports performance

Entry requirements

Achieved at least a C grade in Maths and or English.

Students who have studied a level 2 Diploma/Certificateshould have at least Merit grade(s)

A GCSE grade C or higher in Biology/Science and PE would be a distinct advantage

5 x minimum A-C grade at GCSE 

Future opportunities

Students on the BTEC diploma course can progress on the BTEC Extended diploma in YR 13.

Beyond the 6th form they can also progress to a higher course in Sports studies, Leisure/Recreation Management, Sports coaching development or specific vocational training in fitness. Another option available is in the emplyment within the leisure industry.

Further information

There are no exams on this course and it comprises of 100% coursework. Assignments will be based on realistic workplace situations.
