Extended Project Qualification AS at Torpoint Community College

Course description

This is a 1 year course worth the equivalent of 1 AS level. The EPQ is designed to allow students the flexibility to do some intensive investigation and research into a subject of their choice.

The EPQ is highly valued by universities as it encourages the study skills, levels of independent research, referencing etc that are required at degree level. It is also an excellent opportunity for students to demonstrate their interest and passion for a topic at interview or in a personal statement.

Students have the freedom to choose their own title and topic and complete an investigation, essay or anaylsis in about 5000 words. They also give a short presentation about their project and complete a logbook showing how they managed the essay.

In the past students have done EPQ's on anything from the science of brewing, to aspects of criminal law, how to gain the best golf scores, what to do in a nuclear emergency and much more.

Acceptance onto the EPQ course is limited to year 13's who are going to university and titles etc are discussed with 1-2-1 mentoring.
