English Language at Cardinal Newman Catholic School

Course description

This course will help you gain a sophisticated understanding of how language works. You will understand how to use a range of styles for a variety of audiences. Specific topics include power, gender and technology. At A2 you will discover how the English language has changed over time. By studying real examples of early speech and writing you will also learn how children acquire language.

Some of the data you will analyse you will collect yourself as part of your coursework. English Language A-level is a very useful preparation for the study of linguistics at university, as well as other degree courses. It also gives you a variety of options in terms of interesting and exciting careers in journalism, law and other languagebased professions.

Entry requirements

The equivalent of atleast five GCSEs at grade C or above
