Biology A Level at Kingsmead School
The A level is made up of three mandatory units which are all externally assessed at the end of year 13.
Paper 1 : Covers Topic 5: On the wild side, Topic 6: Immunity, infection and forensics, Some AS topics and experimental methods (including questions on core practicals)
Paper 2: Covers Topic 7: Run for your life, Topic 8: Grey matter, some AS topics and experimental methods (including questions on core practicals)
Paper 3: General paper assessing topics across the AS and A level qualifications, questions on a pre-release article and experimental methods (including questions on core practicals)
With AS being a stand-alone qualification from September 2015, it will no longer form part of students’ A level grades. As such, students could choose to take AS and A level exams to receive grades for both qualifications, or just A level papers at the end of Year 13 to gain an A level grade. The qualification structure is the same for all AS and A level Sciences, regardless of exam board.
