Music Technology AS and A Level *Fees Payable* at St Christopher School

Course description

If you enjoy using a combination of technology and musicianship effectively and creatively to make music, including sequencing, using MIDI, a sampler or audio and exploring recording and production techniques, then this would be a great AS choice.

Course content

AS Music technology (Edexcel-Pearson Specification 8MT01)

Unit 1
Sequencing, Recording and Arranging.
70% of the total AS marks

Unit 2
Listening and Analysing
30% of the total AS marks

A2 Music Technology (Edexcel-Pearson Specification 9MT01)

Unit 3
Music Technology Portfolio 2
60% of the total A2 marks

Unit 4
Analysing and Producing
40% of the total A2 marks

Entry requirements

Be able to read and write music to a basic level initially.

Ideally be able to play a keyboard with a degree of confidence, although this is NOT essential.

Enjoy, and be able to use, sequencing software (such as Cubase).

Be able to recognise and describe music from a range of jazz and pop styles.

Be enthusiastic about the prospect of using equipment to record various groups and performers.

Future opportunities

This subject could lead onto studying a variety of courses at university, including sound production, studio and film techniques and commercial and media composition.  The course is designed to introduce you to the skills and knowledge you need to work in the music technology industry.
