Applied Science, Level 3 BTEC Sub Diploma/Diploma at Oldham Sixth Form College (OSFC)

Course description

Are you are interested in gaining a deeper understanding of a wide range of scientific applications? Do you want to spend time in the laboratory working on practical projects that are based on realistic science-based industries?

BTEC Science at OSFC gives you the opportunity to do all of this and more! BTEC Science will suit you if you prefer to be assessed by coursework rather than examinations and have good time management skills and are able to meet deadlines.

You will have access to the unique Regional Science Centre where you will have access to hi-tech, cutting edge facilities and technologies. Your tutors’ will have extensive experience in vocational sciences. During the course you’ll be given the opportunity to visit scientific workplaces and meet people who use science on a daily basis.


Course content

Level 3 Diploma - Equivalent to 2 A Levels

Year 1

6 units to complete including:

  • Fundamentals of Science
  • Working in the Science Industry
  • Scientific Practical Techniques
  • Physiology of Human Body Systems

Year 2

4 units to complete including:

  • Science investigations
  • Perceptions in Science Using Mathematical tools for science
  • Using statistics for science

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 passes (above C or 4) at GCSE, including at least a 4 in Maths and English.

Level 2 vocational qualifications can count as one or two of the five GCSE passes.
